DOES JUSTICE ALWAYS PREVAIL? THE UNFAIR RULING OF AILEEN WUORNOS.

In the wee hours of the evening between the years 1989 and 1990, seven men picked up Aileen along Florida highways but none of them ever made it back home.

Aileen singlehandedly unalived these men and took all their belongings.  Among these were a construction worker, and appliance store owner and a retired police chief (you heard that right!)

Why did she go to such lengths, killing these men then? During questioning, Aileen mentioned  that the Appliance store owner, who was named  Richard Mallory had driven her into the woods and assaulted her.

In her statement, she mentioned that she was only able to escape from him after shooting him dead. The jury however did not pay attention to any of that, even when  her lawyers came up with evidence that Mallory was I deed a threat because there were records of him breaking into  a woman’s home in Maryland in the year 1957and attacking her.

Sadly, even the evidence against Mallory was clear since he was sentenced to 10 years for that crime under the verdict of attempted violent assault. The court however, chose to ignore all this convicting Aileen in 1992 and  sentencing her to death.

Months later an NBC reporter was able to pull Mallory’s file from statue quotes however much detectives involved in this case had sworn that no records of that nature existed. Even with this kind of evidence the judge refused to grant Eileen a new trial.

Upset and fed up, Aileen fired her attorneys in 2001 and abandoned her appeal. she had stopped fighting and his signed on her own death sentence.

Aileen said to the supreme court of Florida “ I hate human life I would kill all over again!” . This was her way of retaliating against the system that she felt had abandoned her! She went ahead to urge the Court to hurry and execute her sentence. This is when Aileen retracted every statement she had ever said about the killings being done in self defense, pleading guilty to all the murders.

In her ten years of waiting for the death sentence, not once did she bat an eye and ask for a new trial again. Two days before her execution however, Aileen must have felt the need to be heard for who she really was! Speaking to a documentary filmmaker in an interview, Aileen mentioned that all her killings were in self defense!

She mentioned in the interview that she was fed up of waiting for death and hence tried to make her sentence come up faster by pleading guilty, since she was to face death row anyway. She made it clear that it was all just a performance to convince the judges to get it done quickly!

On the morning of 9th October 2002, Aileen’s sentence was carried out! While her soul was being set free from her body, she mentioned that she was finally ascending and returning to Jesus’ side..

Sadly, to this day, she is still labelled as a serial killer  who shot and robbed her clients simply because she was  a street worker on the Florida highways. A lost life, a shattered hope, a villainized victim who dared to dream that the law could protect her yet it intentionally refused to just because of her job description! How then can we stand and call justice free and fair?
