Just when you think you have seen it all, the World relentlessly continues to shock you. This is the story of Pony, an Orangutan that was shown hell on earth by men in Indonesia in Central Kalimantan.

Pony, sadly, is one of oh so many orangutans that are illegally traded throughout Asia. The apes are sold for up to £10,000 on the black market and even on social media sites all over Indonesia.

She was kidnapped as a baby, separated from her family and sold off to a brothel where she was chained to a bed, shaved off of her hair, smeared make up turned into a cash cow.

Pony immediately after the rescue

Pony was not just beaten, she was molested, with many men paying their way into the room. Men working at a nearby palm oil farm would pay a ridiculously meager amount to have sex with an innocent and clueless Pony. She was forced to wear jewellery, and was shaved every other day, which caused her skin to become irritated and infected.

If ever Pony showed reluctance or cried out in pain or discomfort, she was silenced with a cane, totally crushing her into submission! How cruel can humanity be? Pony was turned into a cash cow and she earned that village a lot of money. The whole village was not willing to let her go, simply because they wanted more men coming in from the fields and spending their money for a night with Pony.

Pony currently.

Pony, fortunately however was finally rescued in 2003 and now lives with seven other orangutans at Borneo’s Nyaru Menteng Rehabilitation Centre, after she underwent a series of long term physical and psychological rehabilitation in order to learn how to live and behave like a wild Orangutan.
